The Puri Puri men of Tufi in Papua New Guinea

The Puri Puri men of Tufi… The small village of Tuvirade is located in the foothills of Mount Trafalgar near to Tufi on Cape Nelson in PNG’s Orotoaba Province.  It is separate from the nearby small villages of the area for a very specific reason… It is where the Puri Puri men and their families live.

Puri Puri literally means black magic in the principal Motai dialect. But a more accurate description would be “traditional belief system”. On one of my trips to the Tufi area I was fortunate to be allowed to visit Tuvirade village. Where I was able to learn more about Puri Puri from the village elders and visit the “secret place” in the rainforest where the spell potions are made.

You can read more about that journey on this link to the Puri Puri men of Tufi
